DJ Harvey – Mercury Rising (Volumen Tres) – The Complete Set

It’s not that often these days that an album comes along that you know for certain will be a future classic in years to come, but DJ Harvey appears to have done just that with his new compilation – Mercury Rising (Volumen Tres).

Never one to conform, Harvey has released the compilation in 4 different formats with each one featuring a different tracklist. Trying to work out what is where is a bit like trying to function normally after a heavy night on Ecstasy. And maybe that’s the point. In fact having spent a little time trying to get my head around it his grinning face whilst flicking the V sign on the artwork is really starting to make sense.

That said whatever way you choose to listen you will be graced with a superb compilation of fresh sounding and unique balearica that you will want to hit repeat on.

It’s an album in the true sense in that you need to listen to it in it’s entirety to fully appreciate it’s brilliance. The tracks that he has selected are as fitting on the dancefloor as they are whilst you chill in the sun by the poolside or lounge about at home. It has that late night all back to mine vibe in abundance.

The vinyl version and CD version have 2 tracks that are not available on any other format. Then the CD has 3 bonus tracks that are not on the vinyl. The download version has 4 more bonus tracks plus an exclusive but is missing 2 tracks that are on the physical formats. And the streamed version is a mix up of all the formats without being the same as any of them. Confused? Yeah, that’s probably the point!
