Description

Any release from Kenny Dixon Junior is cause for celebration, and this is no different. “Sloppy Cosmic” sees him offering up an unofficial remake of Funkadelic’s “Cosmic Slop”, seemingly re-made using the original master tapes. The result is a typically deep, undulating and laidback excursion that makes great use of Bootsy’s bass, George Clinton’s vocals and Amp Fiddler’s keys over 12 mesmerizing minutes. As we’ve come to expect, it oozes horizontal soul from every scratchy groove.

Flip for the even more cosmic “Hangover”, a surprisingly sparse chunk of deepness featuring the ethereal vocals of Charlotte OC and more obviously floor-friendly beats.

A alternative version of Sloppy Cosmic entitled Cosmic Slop (Moodymann Mix) is also available on the Funkadelic vs Moodymann LP and LP Sampler and Funkadelic – Reworked By Detroiters LP.

Tracklist:
A – Sloppy Cosmic (11:49)
B – Hangover (5:26)

Sloppy Cosmic is 11 mins 45 secs long whilst Cosmic Slop is around 9 and half minutes long. Although a little shorter, Cosmic Slop has a more drawn out intro and feels more epic overall.

The main vocals on the Sloppy Cosmic version come in at 6 mins 45 secs, whilst the main vocals on Cosmic Slop come in at 2 mins 47 secs.

Sloppy Cosmic has the reporter samples about Detroit at the start whilst Cosmic Slop doesn’t have those samples.

Both versions are great!
