Description
That snappy dresser Gator Boots is back in town, this time bringing Sol Power All-Stars in tow for a four tracker of unquestionable fire.
On the A, a deep, soulful house flip of an R&B classic as Sol Power All-Stars take on Brandy – Full Moon featuring keyboardist Will Rast, formerly of the Brooklyn-based legendary afrobeat band Antibalas and also of DC-based The Funk Ark. Will delivers warm chords and a blistering moog solo that works perfectly with the afro house production.
Following that ‘Water Drip’ has a familiar sample (Fela Kuti), completely recontextualized into a midtempo acid-tinged chugger. Perfect for the heavy warm-ups or the late night dance floor freaks.
On the B side, no one is funkier than the J.B.s and Fred Wesley but the Sol Power All-Stars put their stamp on this groovy classic. Part bruk, part acid, all funk!
And rounding it all off, the reggae disco Classique from Peter Tosh – Buk in Hamm Palace gets the Sol Power treatment with added heft, percussion, and extended dub to the original. Start it from the top for the vocal or at the halfway point if you just want that deep dubby disco goodness.
