Description
For their debut vinyl release Templebys deliver the certified soul based hip shaker that is ‘Good Fight’, whilst the flipside ‘Funkaphrenic’ shows off the band’s more uptempo funk side. Best described as a large measure of Soul with a generous helping of Funk muddled together with a dash of Acid Jazz, Templebys music mixes gutsy female vocals with heavy bass driven grooves, riff heavy guitar and liberal lashings of Hammond funk. The close knit band write their own material and their contemporary but authentic sound sits neatly next to the likes of Quantic Soul Orchestra, Alice Russell, Breakestra, Sharon Jones & The Daptones, The Meters, Laura Vane & The Vipertones, Vicki Anderson, and Spanky Wilson.
Originally forming in 2009, after being inspired whilst dancing all night in The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Clubat Kendal Calling, love for the Templebys quickly started to gain momentum. The band have since played at renowned Jazz and Funk clubs throughout the UK, including Matt and Phreds, Floridita and The Yardbird. As well as making festival appearances all over the country, including the Riot Jazz Stageat Kendal Calling, Solfest, and Beat-Herder, Templebys have supported Smoove and Turrell,The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club, and Huey Morgan and the New Yorkers.
Touted as The North West’s most up and coming funk outfit, ‘Funkaphrenic’has already been getting airplay from Craig Charles, who recently featured it in his What’s Big in 2016 tips list on his Funk & Soul Show at BBC 6 Music. The double A side 7” is limited to 250 copies worldwide. No repress.
